ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – The Orange County school board and commissioners said on Monday they have reached a tentative agreement in the construction of a new relief high school in west Orange County.

The school, which has sparked a fight between the school board, county and residents in the area, would serve as a relief school to West Orange High School.

According to agreement, Orange County Public Schools would not put a football stadium on the site it currently owns on County Road 535 near Winter Garden Vineland Road. Instead, the stadium would be a portion of a county-owned 20-acre site on Ficquette Road, about a mile south of the proposed high school site.

The stadium would "provide additional recreational opportunities to the residents of west Orange County, but would be maintained by OCPS," according to the release.

Under the tentative agreement, OCPS would also construct the new high school with additional buffers and landscaping to reduce impact to the residents of the nearby rural communities.

The agreement will be considered by both boards at separate public meetings April 22.
