Alligator attacks teen swimming in Econlockhatchee River in Seminole County

17-year-old taken to hospital with head, back injuries

GENEVA, Fla. – An alligator estimated at 10 feet long attacked a teen swimming in the Econlockhatchee River in Seminole County, officials said.

Andrew Hudson, 17, suffered bite wounds to his head and back and was taken to South Seminole Hospital.  He was later released.

The attack happened Monday afternoon at the Little Big Econ State Forest near Geneva. 

Hudson said he knew that alligators live in the river but had not seen any just prior to the attack, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

The Little Big Econ State Forest is a 9,500-acre forest near Oviedo that features a 12-mile bike trail.
