ORLANDO, Fla. – The latest report on major theme park attendance was released Tuesday, showing that Disney parks are still dominating in Central Florida.
The Themed Entertainment Association publishes the Theme Index: Global Attractions Attendance Report report annually. It is an international nonprofit for the visitor attractions industry that breaks down attendance trends by region and park type.
Disney World Resort Orlando maintained its worldwide dominance. Central Florida saw a 2.2 percent increase in visitors since 2011, reaching 48.5 million visitors in 2012.
Magic Kingdom numbers increased by 400,000 guests due to several new and renovated attractions like Fantasyland.
The success of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios lifted the numbers in 2011. They are still seeing a 2.5 percent jump last year, with 151,000 more visitors in 2012.
SeaWorld is also up 3 percent with 156,000 more visitors last year.
Local Orlando water parks are seeing at least a two percent increase in visitors.
North America is still the largest theme and amusement park market in the world. Orlando remains home to eight of the top 20 amusement parks worldwide.
