Army sergeant surprises family at Legoland Florida

Sgt. Tom Cruz was deployed for six months in the Middle East

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Fourth of July is a day to celebrate America, but one Florida family had a lot more to celebrate this Independence Day.

The Cruz family went to Legoland Florida on Tuesday as part of what they thought was a VIP treatment day for military families. Little did they know, that their military family would be back all together after their trip.

U.S. Army Sgt. Tom Cruz worked with Legoland Florida to surprise his family during the "Battle for Brickbeard's Bounty" pirate ski show. Cruz had been deployed for the past six months in the Middle East.

Cruz had been deployed five times, but this was the first time he'd been away from his family. His wife Heather and children Gage, Jaidyn and Holden were all in attendance at Legoland.

When Cruz came out as part of the ski show, the faces of his family members expressed their total shock. Cruz ran and picked up his 4-year-old son Holden before hugging the rest of his family. The audience stood and applauded, many shedding tears during the reunion.

The Cruz family will move from Florida to Japan at the end of the year as the sergeant completes a three-year placement.
