Arrest made after Orlando bar owner shot, killed

Patron shot man during dispute, deputies say

ORLANDO, Fla. – A patron shot and killed an Orlando sports bar owner Friday morning during a verbal confrontation inside the bar, according to deputies, who made an arrest in the shooting over the weekend.

Julio Mejia, 52, was killed in the shooting, which occurred around 5:30 a.m. at J&J Sports Bar on Goldenrod Road.

According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, Mejia got into an argument with another man, identified as  37-year-old Joel Fuentes Gregory, who they say shot the bar owner multiple times.

Mejia was taken to Florida Hospital East and later died.

Deputies said the Fuentes fled the scene in a red Nissan Cube and was located on Saturday.

A sex trafficking case was investigated at the bar in May, but deputies said there's no known link between that incident and the shooting.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.

Fuentes was taken to the Orange County jail and booked on first-degree murder charges.
