Artists needed for iconic 'Round Building' fundraiser
Group calling on artists to submit work inspired by iconic downtown building
The Central Florida Modern preservation group is calling on artists to help save a local landmark.
The group is asking artists to donate 1'x1' artworks that are inspired by the iconic "Round Building" located downtown at the intersection of Orange Avenue and Anderson Street.
The building built in 1963, sits on a parcel of land designated for future expansion of the Dr. Phillips Performing Arts Complex.
Plans are in place to remove the buildings most recognizable feature, the interlocking geometric "curtain wall," surrounding its first two floors.
The pieces will be re-purposed into a multi-use public venue at a yet-to-be named location.
The group is trying to raise donations to pay for the costly removal ahead of planned demolition.
Donated artwork can be any medium and 100 percent of the proceeds will go towards the preservation fund.
Deadline for submissions is September 20.
