Woman struck by Amtrak train in Osceola County

No reported injuries to passengers, crew members, Amtrak says

INTERCESSION CITY, Fla. – A woman was struck by an Amtrak train Wednesday evening in Osceola County, officials said.

The incident happened at 6:30 p.m. in Intercession City, about five miles from Kissimmee.

Osceola County Fire Rescue said someone drove the injured woman to a hospital in Polk County. Her condition is unknown. They did not find signs of anyone else being hit by the train.

There were 88 passengers on the train at the time, Amtrak officials said. There were no reported injuries to passengers or crew members.

Amtrak officials said Train 97 is the Silver Meteor, which travels daily between New York City and Miami. Service was temporarily suspended as authorities investigated the incident.

Amtrak initially said the train came into contact with two people, but later in the evening Osceola County Fire Rescue said only one person was hit by the train.
