Avalon Park woman finds her car on blocks, stripped of tires

Victim posts about incident on Facebook

AVALON PARK, Fla. – An Avalon Park woman woke up Friday morning to find her car on blocks and missing all four tires.

The victim said she found her Honda Accord stripped and posted about the incident on Facebook.

"Well, this is what we woke up to this morning. To the thief: You can clearly see I have two car seats in my backseat. My babies have a doctor's appointment today. Thank God, we have another vehicle. Police are on their way," she wrote.

The victim didn't want to speak to News 6 on camera.

The wheels were stolen sometime overnight Thursday into Friday morning on Tanja King Boulevard, the victim told News 6.

She said the car was locked and nothing else was stolen.

Neighbors were shocked to learn about the theft, especially since it happened on a busy road in Avalon Park.

"I live around the corner. I didn't realize it was that close. It's pretty sad to see it's that close to our house," neighbor Mo Khalil said.

The victim told News 6 she didn't have fancy wheels on her car. They were stock tires and wheels that came with the vehicle. Each wheel is worth $500.

She thinks that is why her tires were targeted.

"It happens often for that specific car, the Honda Accord Sport, I believe is what they said [on Facebook]. I guess people are specifically targeting this type of car, so you should look out if you have that car," Khalil said.

Neighbors are disturbed by the crime, especially since the thieves went after a mother with her child seats in the car.

"To do that to a mother obviously is beyond awful. And out on a busy road like this, that takes a lot of guts I guess to do that," Khalil said.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office is investigating the theft. The victim said deputies dusted her vehicle for fingerprints and took the lug nuts the thieves left behind for evidence.

The victim's post on social media is getting a lot of reaction. Many neighbors said they can't believe this kind of crime has targeted their community.

"Obviously you never want to see anything like this in your neighborhood, especially a neighborhood as nice as this. So it's just really bad," Khalil said. "This road is so busy, even in the middle of the night. Somebody hopefully saw something."
