So far there are no reports of people getting sick from the salads.  According to a news release on the Food and Drug Administration's website, this is a precautionary recall due to one sample of Dole Italian salad which tested positive for listeria monocytogenes in a random sample test conducted by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

The Dole Fresh Vegetables salads were sold in Michigan and the following 14 states: Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia.  It was also sold in New Brunswick, Ontario and Quebec in Canada.

Consumers can find the product code and use-by date in the top corner of the packaging and the UPC code is on the back.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause foodborne illness. The symptoms include fever, muscle aches and gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea or diarrhea.

Anyone who has one of these bagged salads should throw it away. For more information call Dole Food Company at 800-356-3111.
