80-year-old man found dead in Brevard home

Man's cause of death unknown, deputies say

SCOTTSMOOR, Fla. – Questions remained unanswered Monday after Brevard County sheriff's deputies said an 80-year-old man was found dead Friday night in a home in Scottsmoor.

A concerned friend went to the Sunset Road home around 10:30 p.m. to check on Grady Wright and found him dead, sheriff's deputies said.

Officials collected evidence and interviewed witnesses, and although deputies said it appears thatWright did not die of natural causes, they would say only that a death investigation is underway.

No further information was released Monday when News 6 contacted the sheriff's office again.

"We're trying to figure out what happened. We just don't know," said 78-year-old Dennis Primmer, a longtime friend of Wright who saw him regularly attend Sunday services at the Scottsmoor First Baptist Church.

"If anybody wanted anything, he'd give it to them," Primmer told News 6 on Monday.

Primmer said that in addition to being a friend, Wright was also a great volunteer for the church ,working toward building a bread ministry and also showing interest in helping with a weekly canned food drive.

"A man like he was, I doubt he had any enemies," said Primmer.

A neighbor told News 6 Monday that the friend who discovered Wright was from out of town.

Another neighbor spoke to News 6 about the news over the weekend.

"I'm wondering, like, what's going on," said a neighbor, who described Wright as friendly and helpful. "This never happens up in this little area. It's a great little area up here."

"We've seen him before. He's walked out here and talked with me and my grandkids and told them about the horses or animals we see up here," another neighbor said. "But you mention anybody around this area, they are all good people. People who live up here are just good, friendly people."

Some in the neighborhood said they are now concerned.

"I would like to find out what happened. I mean, you know, I live just a few streets down. You know, it's kind of a little scary. I'm going to make sure my doors are locked tonight," a neighbor said.

The medical examiner's office told News 6 on Monday that Wright's autopsy was complete but neither the ME nor sheriff's deputies would say what they learned about how he died.

The Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information to call 321-633-7162.
