Bikini basketball comes to Orlando

Orlando Lady Cats host tryouts

ORLANDO, Fla. – A new sports team will soon call Orlando home -- but it's not your average team.

The Bikini Basketball Association is bringing a bikini-clad team of ladies to Orlando as an addition to the league's other seven teams in six cities.

The Orlando Lady Cats will play against teams like the Miami Spice, Hollywood Hotties and New York Knock Outs.

The team's owner says the bikini team will take off in Orlando, similar to the Orlando Eclipse women's football league.

"That's one of the blueprints -- to show the possible success is there and there is a market for the genre," said owner Michael Madison.

Madison said the games will be family-friendly and marketable to any fan of sports -- or even athletes themselves.

"Children and families would be interested in this," Madison said. "It's the same attire they would wear in volleyball."

Some residents say they're excited to see a new team come to Orlando.

"Sounds interesting and fun," said Clint Oldenburg. "Who doesn't want to see
girls in bikinis?"

Others told Local 6 they weren't convinced.

The Lady Cats will host a second round of tryouts on Dec. 2 at the RDV Sportsplex in Maitland.

The season starts in May 2013.
