MELBOURNE, Fla. – Dozens of employees at Bob Evans are searching for work after abruptly receiving notice that the West Melbourne restaurant has closed.

News 6 partner Florida Today reported that the Bob Evans restaurant - at 895 Palm Bay Road is now listed online as permanently closed. It was one of two Florida locations affected by the Ohio-based brand’s move to close 27 of the restaurants nationwide. The West Melbourne employees were told on the day of the closure, although severance for some might  have included considerations for tenure and level of responsibility, company officials said.

It was not immediately known how many employees were affected at the West Melbourne location or if employees were offered opportunities at the other Bob Evans restaurant  in Suntree. The restaurant, which highlighted a country diner menu of slow-roasted turkey sandwiches and farm-fresh soups and salads, was located near the Walmart Supercenter on Palm Bay Road.

“Although we are not commenting on jobs at each location, we have indicated that the 27 closures impacts approximately 1,100 employees, which equates to an average of approximately 40 employees per location,” Scott Taggart, the company's vice president of investor relations, said in an email.
