Body camera on Daytona Beach police shows shooting, dramatic rescue

Ex-NFL player accused of attacking girlfriend with knife

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Daytona Beach police on Wednesday released dramatic video of two of their officers trying to save a woman being held at knifepoint in September.

The officers were wearing body cameras and rescued the victim without killing her assailant.

The video shows police kicking down the door to the home on Magnolia Avenue. When officers walk in, they see 32-year-old Jermaine Green holding a knife to his girlfriend's neck.

Officer Richard Maher's body camera shows him ducking into a bedroom. Green falls onto a nearby bed and his girlfriend, Katrina Johnson, falls on top of him, struggling to get away.

The video shows Green moving the knife from Johnson's neck to her chest, prepared to stab her.

In the video, both officers repeatedly command him to drop the weapon.

"Let her go, dude, let her go. Let her go, man. I'm telling you right now," warns Officer Kevin Connelly.

Police say Green didn't listen and that's when officers shot him in the leg and stomach at least four times.

Johnson was shot in the arm during the ordeal, but officers say they had no other choice but to shoot in order to save her life.

Green is an ex-NFL player who had a brief stint with the New York Giants. His family told Local 6 that he has a short temper.
