MELBOURNE BEACH, Fla. - The body of a man swept out to sea by a rip current was recovered late Sunday off Brevard County, according to deputies.
The man's body was found around 10:10 p.m. after he disappeared in the surf near Coconut Point Park on Melbourne Beach about four hours earlier.
A Brevard County deputy and firefighter dove in the water in an attempt to rescue the man but were unable to find him.
Brevard County Ocean Rescue lifeguards then did a grid search but were initially unable to locate the man.
A Brevard County helicopter, along with Florida Fish and Wildlife and Coast Guard jet skis and boats, were also out in search of the man, whose body was later discovered.
Officials said three other people that got caught in the rip current with the man were able to get out of the water.
