ORLANDO, FLA. - The final week of regular season play saw the Clickorlando.com game of the week crew travel to Edgewater High School for the 'Battle for the Barrel,' which pits the Boone Braves against the Edgewater Eagles.
The 'Battle for the Barrel' is the oldest high school rivalry in Orange County and is a prized possession between both schools.
This game was also extremely special due to the fact that Boone Braves head coach Phil Ziglar would be calling it a career at Boone after the final whistle blew Friday night.
Ziglar has spent the last 23 seasons with the Braves and led them to a state championship game in 2007.
It is an under statement to say that both teams were ready to rock and roll.
Boone and Edgewater would trade possessions throughout much of the first half as both defenses played very well.
Neither team would force a turnover, but a simple field goal put the Braves on top 3-0.
The back and forth defensive struggle continued into the late stages of the 3rd quarter, that is until Edgewater QB JB Woodman threw a beautiful pass to Justus Bell for the touchdown to break the 3-0 score. Edgewater would miss the extra-point but go ahead 6-3.
On the ensuing drive for the Boone Braves, QB Blake Williams threw a touchdown pass to WR Devin Thomas to put the Braves on top with 11 minutes left to go in the game 10-6.
Oh, but the drama was just beginning.
Edgewater moved the ball on the next drive well feeding the rock to running back Joseph Clark and mixing in a nice pass game.
However, it was Eagle Senior Arthur Blake who would take a reverse hand-off and head straight into the end-zone for the touchdown.
The Eagles would miss the extra-point, leaving the score 12-10 with only a few minutes to play.
Boone then would take the ball down the field on the next possession and with little time left kicked a game winning field goal to win the game 13-12.
It was an instant classic.
What a rivalry and what a way for Boone head coach Ziglar to get his final win of his coaching career at Boone.
Boone finishes its season with a record of 6-4 and Edgewater drops to 3-7.
