KISSIMMEE, Fla. - A 19-year-old babysitter faces charges after a 4-year-old autistic boy was found wandering alone in Kissimmee, according to police.

Officers said the boy, who has a mild form of autism, was found alone around 5:45 a.m. Friday near a busy street in the area of Central Avenue and West Vine Street, about a mile from his home.

The child was taken to the Kissimmee Police Department, and officers tried to find the parents or guardians but were initially unsuccessful.

The boy's mother later contacted police, saying that the babysitter, who's a relative of the family, was supposed to be watching the boy.

Police said the sitter fell asleep and despite the fact that the home has multiple locks and chimes on its doors, she didn't hear the boy leave.

Police said the boy didn't know his or his mother's name.

The boy was not injured and was returned home after the ordeal.
