Boy in Lake Mary High School shooting hoax pleads not guilty

Students hid in closets for protection during lockdown

LAKE MARY, Fla. – A 12-year-old boy accused of calling 911 and falsely reporting a shooting at Lake Mary High School last month has pleaded not guilty.

The boy, who did not appear in court on Monday, entered a written plea, Local 6 News has learned.

Lake Mary High School was placed under a Code Red lockdown February 21 after a 911 caller reported a shooting at the campus.

Seminole County sheriff's deputies said the boy was arrested at a local middle school later that day on charges of misuse of 911 and disruption of an educational institution, both of which are misdemeanor offenses.

Authorities evacuated the school as a precaution after students were ordered into closets for protection as police with guns drawn were spotted around the campus.  Students were later spotted leaving the school with their hands on their heads as law enforcement officers went classroom to classroom clearing the building.

No one was injured in the incident.
