VIERA, Fla. – Dozens of people in Brevard County faced a judge on Friday afternoon for skipping out on jury duty.
Deputy Chief Judge Charles Roberts called 60 people to the Brevard County courthouse on Friday in a crackdown of no-show jurors.
A $25 fine is typical for those skipping out on jury duty. For the 16 others who wanted to challenge the fine, Roberts gave them a chance to tell their side of the story.
Roberts said no-show jurors are unacceptable because it slows the court process.
"What prompted me to call you all here today was on a Friday just like today hundred jurors for some and 44 showed up we had two cases to try that day," Roberts said.
Another crackdown hearing is scheduled for August.
