Brevard deputies hold active shooter training

COCOA, Fla. – The Brevard County Sheriff's Office is holding active shooter training on Friday in hopes it will keep people safe in an emergency situation.

Dozens of people were at Eastern State College in Cocoa learning from deputies what to do in case they find themselves in a life or death situation.

Leaders are advising people to be armed and aware.

"Do you believe we need more good, responsible people carrying guns in public?" News 6's James Sparvero asked Commander JJ Woolsey of the Brevard County Sheriff's Office.

"Yes, I do believe that," Woolsey said. "But the keyword that you said was responsible. As long as that person carrying that gun understands and appreciates and is aware of that same level of responsibility than I'm all for it."
