Briefcase prompts Daytona Beach Police Department evacuation

Suspicious package investigated Thursday night

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Authorities are investigating after a suspicious package dropped off at the Daytona Beach Police Department Thursday night prompted evacuations.

Daytona Beach police said a man walked up to the window of the police department on Thursday just after 7 p.m. and said that he had a briefcase for a detective.

When the front desk officer tried to question the man, he walked out of the police department and left the briefcase, according to police. 

The police department was evacuated and the Volusia County bomb squad was called.

Police said papers were found inside the briefcase and the department was reopened at 10 p.m.
