Burglars threw bench through Casselberry gun shop window, police say

Gun store owner believes no guns were taken

CASSELBERRY, Fla. – Casselberry police say burglars used a bench to break into a gun shop on Friday morning, as the search for the culprits continues.

Police say weapons are missing from the Southern Guns shop on U.S. 17-92, but the owner says he thinks otherwise after an inventory check.

It is believed that at least two burglars came to the store just before 3 a.m., broke a few glass display cases and setting off the alarm, according to police.

The store owner said he believes the burglars were frightened by the alarm and left the store before taking anything.

"I'm surprised it happened because we get a good amount of police activity when they come in," said store owner Casey Burke. "There has been some break-ins with other guns shops in the area. Its always a surprise when it happens but you try to be prepared as you can."

Less than a month ago, the gun store in nearby Winter Park was broken into and a masked burglar stole eight guns, including an AK-47.

It's not clear if the two burglaries are related.

Burke said the damage is estimated to be around $1,000 and he will open the store per usual.
