California inventor creates 'WaterCar'

Vehicle seamlessly switches from land to sea operation

LOS ANGELES - What started as a weekend project for a father and son has turned into a record-breaking amphibious car.

Dave March and his son are starting to take pre-orders for their "WaterCar" called the "Panther." It can seamlessly transition from land to sea, reaching speeds of 80 mph on land and 45 mph in the water.

March tells CBS2 Los Angeles the Panther costs between $100,000 and $200,000. He has already pre-sold "dozens" of WaterCars to businessmen in Silicon Valley. March has even received orders from princes in Dubai.

"People are willing to wait a year, which is phenomenal," March told CBS2.
