FRUITLAND PARK, Fla. – The Lake County Office of the State's Attorney has dismissed three cases that were handled by two Fruitland Park police officers, who were linked to possible involvement with the Ku Klux Klan.
Deputy Chief David Borst resigned last Thursday and Officer George Hunnewell was fired last Friday after the allegations surfaced as part of a separate FBI investigation.

As a result, the Office of the State Attorney began reviewing the active cases that each officer was involved with.
Walter Forgie, an attorney at the state attorney's office, told Local 6 his office reviewed 10 cases.
Three of them were dismissed because Hunnewell or Borst were the only witnesses that his office would have been able to rely on if the cases made it to trial.
One cases that was dismissed was against a driver who was accused of driving without a license and possessing marijuana.
Another case was dismissed against someone charged with resisting arrest without violence.
The last case dismissed involved someone accused of trying to run from one of the officers.
Fruitland Park's police chief and city manager told Local 6 they are currently conducting a review at city hall to see if there are any employees that are also members of the Klan.
