Central Fla. school security methods

Local 6 reached out to several Central Florida counties to see how their security was being implemented since the mass shooting at a Connecticut elementary school last week.

Orange County: Security plans are protected by statue and are not able to be released. Commissioners have approved the addition of Orange County deputies at each of the 60 schools in the county's jurisdiction.

Osceola County: Locked classroom doors still accessible from inside.

Seminole County: Specific safety procedures not able to be discussed. Classroom locking procedures wouldn't interfere with safety of students, according to county officials.

Brevard County: Teachers are advised to keep their doors locked from the outside throughout the school day, according to district officials. All schools are up to fire code, meaning doors can be opened from inside if locked from the outside.

Volusia County: Representatives say the number of patrols have been stepped up at schools. Locked doors are able to be opened from the inside, in accordance with fire code.

Flagler County: Deputies are on campus at every school until further notice.

Lake County:  Increased police presence, additional security measures have been put in place. According to school officials, in a lockdown, all doors must be locked and windows must be covered, but otherwise during the day doors can never be locked so kids cannot leave.
