Central Florida city votes down name change
Orange City considered original name chosen in 1876
City leaders in Orange City have voted down a controversial idea to change the city's name.
Some on the City Council were hoping to change the city's name to Blue Springs.
That's the name original townspeople chose back in 1876. But the postmaster decided his choice -- Orange City -- would draw more attention. He put Orange City on the paperwork.
Supporters believed naming the city after its most valued asset -- Blue Spring State Park -- will attract more eco-tourists.
But the city council voted against the idea at a meeting Tuesday night.
The name change would have required a vote by residents before it would have become final.
