BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – People of all ages were stocking up on their favorite fireworks Monday at Skyking in Cocoa. They were eager to get this Fourth of July started.
"We light up a ton," said shopper Chris Irvine. "We always have competitions with people across from our lake so it's a lot of fun every year."
Fireworks are a staple during Independence Day, making it one of the busiest times of the year for Willie Micco, co-founder of Skyking.
"A lot of people will be taking long weekends, so sales are going to escalate more and more, getting closer and closer to Thursday," said Micco.
Fireworks can also be very dangerous, according to Lt. Don Slayman with Brevard County Fire Rescue.
Slayman said that fireworks surrounding the Fourth of July holiday cause more fires than all other fire causes combined and should be handled carefully.
"Even sparklers burn from 1,000 to 2,000 degrees fahrenheit and can cause significant burns," said Slayman.
To avoid any unsafe situations while setting off fireworks, Brevard County Fire Rescue suggests to always read and follow directions and to make sure you dispose of them correctly.
