Central Florida trainer's 7-Minute workout app gains national attention

LAKE NONA, Fla. – No access to a gym or elaborate exercise equipment? No problem. According to a Lake Nona exercise physiologist, you simply need seven minutes, a wall, a chair and your smart phone.

Chris Jordan tells Local 6 he designed the 7 Minute Work Out for his corporate clients about 10 years ago. After a New York Times article detailed the science behind the work out, Jordan says numerous apps popped up.

That's when he designed his app with Johnson and Johnson, the Human Performance Institute's parent company.

"It will learn how you work out, how you respond to the workouts, whether you find them easy or difficult and help guide you into more efficient work outs."

The ability to customize workouts is what makes this free app different from the rest, Jordan says. In addition to the basic workout, you'll find 12 other preselected workouts.

You can also build your own session. Not sure how to do a certain exercise? Don't worry. Jordan is your personal coach.

"I want this app to be good enough for my 74 year old mother or triathlete elder brother. And I think it is," Jordan said.

Jordan says the workout focuses on both aerobic and strength training, with the goal to build to two or three circuits back-to-back a few times a week.

"There's no fear of failure, there's no intimidation, no worry about equipment, just making it fun, simple, accessible," he said.

Right now the app is only available in Apple's App store, but starting Tuesday, will be available on Androids. The app is free, and has been downloaded more than 20,000 times since it became available last week.
