Charges dropped against Markeith Loyd's former boss, girlfriend, state attorney says

State Attorney: Cases not suitable for prosecution

ORLANDO, Fla. – All charges have been dropped against two people accused of assisting Markeith Loyd, according to the State Attorney's Office.

Accessory to first-degree murder charges against Zarghee Mayan were dropped Wednesday, according to Orange County court records.

Police accused Mayan of helping Loyd avoid capture after Loyd was accused of fatally shooting his pregnant ex-girlfriend, Sade Dixon, in Pine Hills on Dec. 13. Police said Loyd also killed Lt. Debra Clayton on Jan. 9 as she was trying to arrest him at an Orlando Walmart.

Mayan was released from the Orange County Jail on Feb. 8 on a $20,000 bond. He was arrested Jan. 10.

Felony accessory to murder charges were also dropped against Jameis Slaughter, 25, records show.

Slaughter bonded out on Feb. 8 after her bond was lowered from $500,000 to $20,000.

Slaughter was arrested in January on allegations that she helped Loyd avoid capture.

Assistant State Attorney Kelly Barbara Hicks wrote that the State Attorney's Office will not prosecute the two individuals because the cases are "not suitable for prosecution" based on the investigation.

Both cases are now closed.

State Attorney Aramis Ayala also announced Thursday that she will not seek the death penalty for Loyd if he is convicted of first-degree murder.

Ayala said she will not pursue the death penalty in any cases.
