Charges for SunRail rides begin

13,000 SunCard tickets pre-sold, officials say

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Central Floridians were out Sunday at the Winter Park SunRail station checking out the ticket machines, which haven't been used for the past two weeks.

Service on the first 32-mile phase of the $1.2 billion commuter train was offered for free for two weeks to help urge passengers to get acclimated to the train and its schedule.

Passengers took full advantage of the free rides. Officials say an estimated 100,000 people have given SunRail a try since May 1.

Each of the 12 stations have five ticket vending machines. One-way tickets cost $2 for service in one county, but if you cross over into another county it'll cost an additional dollar.

SunRail officials are urging riders to add a few minutes to their commute Monday because they're expecting lines at the ticket machines to be long.

To avoid the long lines at the ticket machines a SunCard can be purchased on SunRail.com

According to officials, 13,000 SunCard tickets have been pre-sold.
