TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -

Former Florida Governor Charlie Crist is officially in the running to get his old job back, this time as a democrat.

Crist filed paperwork with elections officials Friday.

He was the governor of Florida from 2007 to 2011 as a republican. Crist ran for U.S. Senate as a republican in 2010, but after trailing in the polls to Marco Rubio, Crist left the party. He stayed in the race under a "No Party Affiliation" but ultimately lost the election to Rubio.

Crist endorsed President Barack Obama for re-election in 2012 and announced right after the election that he had joined the Democratic Party.

Crist has been building up to an announcement for months, talking to Democratic groups and campaigning with Democratic candidates. He has already set up a website, and his speeches recently have criticized Republican Gov. Rick Scott.

A formal announcement from Crist is planned at an event Monday morning in Saint Petersburg.
