Health officials said the case in Volusia County was contracted in the Dominican Republic by a female patient, who has since recovered.

A chikungunya fever case was also reported in Flagler County, but it's not clear how the virus was contracted.

Chikungunya fever cases were also reported earlier this month in Orange and Brevard counties. Both cases were imported cases, meaning they were contracted out of the area.

If a person is infected and bitten by a mosquito, that mosquito may later spread the infection by biting another person, officials said. If you experience symptoms of chikungunya fever, see a doctor immediately and protect yourself from more mosquito bites.
