Child dies after accidentally shooting self with stolen gun found in home

PORT ORANGE, Fla. – Detectives are trying to figure out how a stolen gun made its way into the home of 8-year-old Christopher Scurry's grandmother last week.

Investigators say the child accidentally shot himself in the torso on Friday, an injury that would claim his life a couple hours later.

Port Orange police say the gun the child was holding was stolen from SCCY Industries, a gun manufacturer based in Daytona Beach.

They say the company's own disgruntled workers stole 43 guns in 2009.

As investigators determine who brought the gun inside the home, Scurry's family is trying to raise money to bury him.

They've set up a GoFundMe page, where their fundraising goal is set at $6,000.

It's there we found out Scurry's father also died recently.

In a note at the top of their fundraising page, Scurry's mother says the boy's father died nine months ago from cancer..
