Chilly weather brings freeze warning to Marion County

Temperatures dip down to high 30s overnight Thursday

ORLANDO, Fla. – A freeze warning was issued in Central Florida for overnight Thursday and Friday morning as cooler weather moves in.

Residents woke up to a chilly morning as some parts of Central Florida had temperatures of 37 degrees. Temperatures are expected to only reach a high of 62 degrees, dipping back down to 55 overnight and starting off Friday in the 30s and 40s. Forecasts show no rain is expected Thursday or Friday, as temperatures reach 77 degrees on Saturday.

Marion County was issued a freeze warning by the National Weather Service, effective through 8 a.m. on Friday, as a result.

"Temperatures are going to drop off again tomorrow," said Local 6 meteorologist Troy Bridges. "We could have some frost to deal with, mainly north to northwest of I-4 tomorrow morning."

Meanwhile, in the Northeastern U.S., a powerful winter storm is expected to drop one to two feet of snow just a day after it swept through the nation's middle, dumping a record snowfall in Arkansas and ruining holiday travel plans.

The storm, which was blamed for six deaths, hit the Northeast Wednesday night. Within hours, snowfall ranged from a few inches to a dozen in some locations.

The National Weather Service says the Northeast's heaviest accumulations will be in northern Pennsylvania, upstate New York and inland sections of several New England states before the storm ends Friday morning and heads to Canada.
