Citrus Bowl hits construction milestone

Workers to sign concrete bowl structure before installation at ceremony

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando and Orange County mayors joined with workers and staff on Wednesday morning to celebrate the midpoint of the precast concrete bowl construction at the Citrus Bowl.

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs and representatives from Florida Citrus Sports joined for the ceremony at the 50-yard line of the field of the stadium.

As part of the Forward Progress to the 50 ceremony, attendees will sign their names on the precast concrete structure before it is hoisted into place and installed, according to officials.

According to a news release, more than 36 million pounds, nearly half of the precast concrete, has been put into place on the project.

Demolition of the stadium took 26 days with the bowl being knocked down in six days.

35,000 pounds of steel has been put up representing approximately 50 percent of the total steel structure , officials said.
