Parents alerted after clown threat posted on social media

School says social media posts believed to be hoax

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – Seminole County schools officials and deputies are investigating after reports of clowns visiting schools were posted on social media.

School officials said the sheriff's office is monitoring references on social media about clowns visiting schools, including Jackson Heights Middle School and Lake Howell High School.

"This has been an ongoing phenomenon across the U.S. during the last 30-days that you've likely heard about, much of which has been unfounded," officials said in an email to parents. "Parents and students should be rest assured that SCPS and local law enforcement are very aware of these mentions and are thoroughly investigating the source."

Officials said the threats are believed to be non-credible and that it is business is at usual at schools in the county.
