Coast Guard helps baby sea turtles get to sea
300 of the endangered species to be released
The U.S. Coast Guard is helping a marine scientist release 300 sea turtle hatchlings by hand off the coast of Boca Raton.
On Thursday, crewmembers from Coast Guard Station Fort Lauderdale will assist Melanie Stadler, a marine scientist with Gumbo Limbo Nature Center.
A press release from the Coast Guard says it's committed to protecting endangered species.
The hatchlings come from turtle nests from beaches throughout Florida, a primary nesting ground for loggerhead sea turtles. The turtles are being released as part of a program run by the marine center.
