Cocoa Beach residents permitted to use toilet, take showers again

Power outage caused by Hurricane Matthew stalls city's sewage system

COCOA BEACH, Fla. – A power outage caused by Hurricane Matthew stalled Cocoa Beach's sewage system on Friday, prompting a request for citizens to refrain from using toilets; showering, washing laundry and doing dishes -- however, News 6 learned later in the night, people can flush again.

Power is back on and things like toilets and showers are OK for use.

The city worked hard to address the critical water treatment outage. Additionally, stranded residents who had to evacuate for Hurricane Matthew were allowed to return home.

"It is important to limit sewage use," the city said previously.

The city worked with Florida Power and Light to get power back to the plant as soon as possible.
