Community honors veterans on Memorial Day

SANFORD, Fla. – Historic Downtown filled with neighbors, families and veterans all standing to salute the men and women who have paid the ultimate sacrifice this Memorial Day.

"I served in the Navy, and to see everybody come out and appreciate all we've done and all and celebrate it, it's really nice," said Wesley Powers.

Debbie Sciara, who sat with her family in shaded lawn chairs, said she makes it out to the parade every year.

"It's great to share with the kids. I like to give them those memories," Sciara said.

The parade featured the Tuskegee Airmen, Korean War veterans, United States Marine Corps, U.S. Navy submariners and many more participating organizations.

Edwin Vasquez served in the First Gulf War and up until 9/11.

"Memorial Day. It's a remembrance of those that gave their lives to serve this country," said Vasquez.

Vasquez said he's thinking of all his fallen brothers on this day but left everyone with a reminder.

"Throughout the year, we should never forget them," he said. "We should always keep them in mind."
