Cops: Man trying to break into homes in Altamonte Springs

Police say man tried to break into at least 3 homes Friday

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – Police are investigating after surveillance video captures a man trying to break into homes in the County Creek subdivision in Altamonte Springs.

In the video, the man peeks in the sliding glass door to see if anyone was home.

Police said the man tried breaking into at least three homes on Friday, including two that were occupied.

One woman, who asked not to be identified, said the same man entered her screened-in patio Friday afternoon as she sat in the living room watching him.

"He came over to this other side, where the lock is on the glass door, and he put his hands up to his face on the side and looked in and saw me," she said. "Then, he just kinda lifted his hand and went out the door, and I thought, what was that about?"

Police are hoping someone recognizes the man, but they also want everyone to be aware that someone is going around, apparently looking for unlocked doors.

"After it was all over, I thought that wasn't real smart of me to just sit here either," the woman said. "I probably should have dialed 911."

The woman said it happened so quickly she really didn't have time to react, but she did eventually contact police, along with the person who captured the surveillance video and wasn't home. His phone alerted him about motion in the house, and he was then able to immediately watch the video of the guy prowling around.
