CASSELBERRY, Fla. – A man claiming to have an HIV positive needle threatened to stab a Casselberry store clerk with a needle unless she handed over money from the cash register, police said.
Casey Garlick, 27, was arrested Tuesday on charges of threatening to bomb or discharge a destructive device, robbery with a weapon and grand theft.
According to police, on Jan. 11 Garlick passed a clerk at Pet Supermarket in Casselberry a note demanding money.
The clerk told police that as she was reading the note, Garlick said, "It's not a joke."
The note stated that he had an HIV positive needle and would stab her, said police, who added that the letter also claimed that he had a bomb.
The clerk handed over the money, and Garlick fled the store with nearly $400 dollars, police said.
Casselberry police said Garlick's fingerprints were left on a Nylabone that he touched at the store.
An investigation led police to Garlick, who was arrested at an apartment in Lake Mary.
Police said a syringe was found in his possession and he was watching a 4-month-old boy.
Garlick was taken to the Seminole County Jail without incident.
Police said it's not known if Garlick has HIV and no medical tests will be conducted on him.
