Robbers caught on camera smashing their way through a jewelry store with a sledgehammer made off with nearly $150,000 in loot, deputies said.
The Seminole County Sheriff's Office now needs the public's help identifying three suspects who burglarized the Jared Jewelers, located at 8275 Red Bug Lake Road in Oviedo at around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.
"I was coming to drop off my ring, my wedding ring to get repaired," said Luis Cortes, who came to the store but quickly left and will have to keep his wedding ring in his pocket for a little while longer.
A sign posted on the front door reads, "Closed today due to maintenance issues," and the back of the building is being watched by a security guard, as plywood covers the area where thieves burst their way inside.
"It's a bummer. It's an inconvenience," said Justin Lombard, who came with his wife, hoping to get her engagement ring back after being fitting and adding a new diamond. "Apparently we can't get it tonight."
Deputies believe the suspects entered the business by smashing two windows at the rear of the business. Deputies also discovered two holes in the exterior wall on the east side of the building where the suspects may have also attempted to gain access, but failed.
Video from inside the store shows three masked males enter the store wearing long pants, long sleeved shirts, gloves, and hats. Once inside they used sledgehammers to smash display cases and removed nearly $150,000 in jewelry, TAG Heuer watches.
"What if someone's going to propose? Someone's probably got stuff that they need it for, or it's an anniversary or special occasion. What are they supposed to do now," Lombard wondered.
Anyone with information regarding this crime is urged to call CrimeLine at 1-800-423-TIPS or the Seminole County Sheriff's Office at 407-665-6650.
