Cops: Woman dead in double shooting near Florida Mall

Police say another hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A woman is dead and a man went to the hospital after being shot near the Florida Mall, according to Orange County deputies.

Orange County deputies said the double shooting occurred just after 4 p.m. Wednesday on Voltaire Drive off of Sand Lake Road.

Authorities said the man was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and the gunman or gunmen are still on the loose.

Local 6 obtained cell phone video showing deputies moving in with guns drawn after the shooting at the back of Las Palmas apartments.

Neighbors said they heard between two and four shots.

"I don't come out. You never know what could happen," said Ayde Guzman, who heard the gunshots, thought they were fireworks, but stayed inside just in case.

In an area where gunshots are common, neighbors don't want to get involved, especially when deputies have not caught the killer.

"They're probably still out there. You don't know who it could be so what can we do but stay in the house and stay out of trouble," said Guzman.

One neighbor said he heard the shots, looked out the window and saw a woman slumped over in a red car being driven away.

Deputies do not consider this shooting domestic and they said the woman killed and the man injured are both victims in this case. Deputies said the woman killed did not live at the complex, and they still don't know what sparked the shooting.

"We know that there was an argument that ensued somewhere in this complex. We're quite sure as to where or what led to this argument," said Deputy Ginette Rodriguez with the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

For hours, families were not allowed back into their homes as deputies wanted to make sure the complex was safe before letting them back into their homes.

Deputies are still interviewing witnesses and need more to come forward or call Crimeline at (800) 423-TIPS.
