County worker struck by saw fragment at construction near Brevard Zoo

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – A county employee was airlifted to a hospital after Brevard County Fire Rescue officials say a fragment of a saw broke off and hit him in the face while he was working near the Brevard Zoo.

According to BCFR, the man was using a chop or circular saw to cut section of piping and concrete when the blade broke off. Rescuers responded to the main entrance of the construction area near the Brevard Zoo and the 40-year-old victim was taken to the hospital on trauma alert.

Brevard Zoo Deputy Director John Brangan said the incident occurred outside the zoo's perimeter fence in an area where county crews are building a park and parking lot. He said the man, a county employee, was injured and no zoo staff, or animals, were involved.
