ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – A Jacksonville couple is arrested after the wife shined a laser pointer at a car that turned out to be an undercover patrol unit, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies said the family of five drove down A1A near Northshore Drive Thursday night when they slowed down to get behind the unmarked car.
Deputies said the lieutenant on duty then slowed down to let their car pass and when it did 38-year-old Charles Brazell pulled alongside the lieutenant.
Deputies said his wife, 38-year-old Tonya Harding, shined a green laser into the patrol car, not knowing who was inside.
The lieutenant quickly pulled the couple over and searched their car. Deputies said they found a small bag of marijuana, prescription pills and three children in the back seat.
The couple has already been released from the Volusia County Jail.
Brazell is charged with driving with a suspended license, failure to register a motor vehicle, and possession of a misdemeanor amount of marijuana.
Harding is charged with shining a light at a law enforcement officer and possession of a schedule IV substance.
The children, ages 12, 13 and 15 were turned over to a relative.
