Couple wanted in Central Florida crime spree nabbed after police chase

Investigators say duo believed to have broken into Palm Coast home

PALM COAST, Fla. – A wild chase ended Monday afternoon with the arrest of a couple wanted in dozens of burglaries in Central Florida.

The duo's alleged crime spree spread across Volusia, Flager and St. Johns counties over the past six months.

The couple was reportedly breaking into a Palm Coast home on Monday when their black SUV was spotted. Deputies tried to stop the vehicle, but it sped off, leading officers on a chase for miles through Palm Coast and onto Interstate 95.

Stop sticks were deployed and eventually the couple was caught.  Investigators say it appears to be the same duo and the same vehicle caught on home surveillance video in Palm Coast on Oct. 5.

In the video, the thieves are seen pulling up to the home. Seconds later, a woman casually walks up to the front door. Then a man gets out of the vehicle. He heads to the back of the house and breaks in through a bathroom window all while the owners, a husband and wife, were inside. They didn't want to go on camera, but when the homeowner realized what was happening, he grabbed a gun.

"I don't want to kill him either, but I would have," said the homeowner. "I just wanted to put a stop to it really quick."

Before being confronted, the thief managed to escape with $1,200, two watches and other items.

Investigators are now combing through evidence from police agencies along the coast to find out just how many burglaries the pair may have committed.
