SOUTH DAYTONA, Fla. – Police on Tuesday said three family members, two of whom are known gang members, were arrested in the slaying of a retired car salesman who was shot to death in his South Daytona apartment laundry room.
The body of Donald Clark, 67, was found June 2, 2013, at the Golfview Apartments.
Renard Miller and Emmanuel Butler, who are cousins, were arrested. Butler was charged with first-degree murder and Miller was charged with accessory after the fact. Butler was 17 years old at the time of the shooting.
Their grandmother, Patricia Horton, was arrested on charges of perjury after, police said, she lied to officers to protect her family.
Clark's 2011 Mitsubishi Gallant was stolen after the shooting and recovered the day of the shooting in the parking lot of an apartment building on Palmetto Avenue in Daytona Beach, police said.
"These are the guys breaking into your cars. They go around stealing cars, running from the police all over the east Volusia area," said the lead investigator, adding that the pair belongs to the 819 Southside gang.
"Mr. Clark was in the wrong place at the wrong time. They saw him and targeted him for his car," the investigator said.
