Craigslist meeting turns fatal in Lake Mary

Seminole County deputies: Seller shot, killed 1 suspect; 2nd man arrested

LAKE MARY, Fla. – An armed robbery and shootout left one man dead and another arrested in the hospital after Seminole County sheriff's deputies say a Craigslist deal went bad.

Deputies are investigating the incident, which occurred about 3:30 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of Greenwood Boulevard and Lake Way Road.

According to deputies, both parties had agreed to meet in the parking lot of the Pebble Creek Apartments to discuss the sale of an ATV.

During the meeting, the buyers entered the back of the sellers' vehicle and held guns to their heads demanding property, deputies said. Then, one of the victims took out his own gun and started shooting at the potential buyers, according to Seminole County deputies.

The suspects attempted to flee in their vehicle, but the driver lost control of the vehicle a few feet away, deputies said.  The driver died from the gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second suspect, who was also shot, fled on foot.

A short time later, deputies located the second suspect in the Canterbury Crossing subdivision where he was hiding underneath a duplex, deputies said. He was removed and taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with multiple gunshot wounds.

Neither robbery victim was injured during the altercation.

Officials said no charges will be filed against the victims.

No names are being released at this time.
