Crash in Titusville kills driver, injures passenger

Police continue to investigate fatal wreck

TITUSVILLE, Fla. – One man was killed and another was injured Thursday when vehicle veered off a roadway in Titusville and slammed into several trees, according to officials.

Police said the driver, Richard Eckhardt, 51, of Titusville, was killed in the crash.  His passenger, Paul E. Nash, 52, of Titusville, was critically injured.

The crash, involving a 2001 Pontiac Firebird, happened about 4 p.m. on Fox Lake Road.

Police are trying to determine if alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

Police say the crash happened as the black sports car was speeding eastbound on the 4000 block of Fox Lake Road. Police said the vehicle went into another lane then struck several trees along the road, shearing off the back of the car as a result of the impact.
