Lightning strike to blame for Port Orange brush fire, officials say

Crews worked to put out 30-acre brush fire near Ridgewood Avenue

PORT ORANGE, Fla. – A lightning strike is to blame for a 30-acre brush fire that broke out Saturday afternoon in Port Orange, officials said.

Crews worked to put out the brush fire that started at 2:40 p.m. in the 6100 block of Ridgewood Avenue.

The fire neared residential homes and railroad tracks, but no homes were damaged and there were no evacuations.

The fire was completely contained Saturday night.

Authorities said a firefighter who was injured was taken to urgent care for evaluation, but is expected to be OK.

A chopper with the Volusia County Sheriff's Office monitored the fire from the sky.

The Port Orange Department of Fire and Rescue, Volusia County Fire Services, the Florida Forest Service and the VCSO chopper assisted at the scene.
