Deputies search for Deltona car burglar

At least 5 cars burglarized overnight, deputies say

DELTONA, Fla. – Deputies in Volusia County are trying to track down a burglar who may be ready to strike again.

Overnight, several families were woken up by deputies after at least four cars were broken into in a Deltona neighborhood. The cars were all parked along West Embassy Drive.

The first call came in around 11:30 pm Monday night when a homeowner saw a man breaking into cars. Deputies dispatched their helicopter and K-9s to search for the suspect, but couldn't find him.

"It's alarming because this is a quiet neighborhood," said resident Joy Turner.
Turner was inside her Deltona home when she got a knock on the door overnight.

"So I'm like who is it?" said Turner. "I happen to look out and it was the police out here in a line of cars."
Several cars on Turner's street were targeted. Thieves took Turner's empty purse, but left other valuables behind.
"Towards the back is the TV which is still there, but they just made a mess of the truck, rambling through, throwing stuff. It's ridiculous," said Turner.
Turner can't help but wonder if her home will be hit next or if someone will get hurt.
"I mean it's quiet, there's kids playing out here, now you got to take everything in the house," said Turner.
